Ensemble Workshop Schedule Announced!

This summer the Pickin’ Porch will offer three workshops in ensemble playing.  The workshop series will conclude with a “field trip” to the Friday Night Jamboree for some parking lot picking on Friday June 25th.  Students will receive instruction in playing in a small group setting with several instruments and jamming.  Topics covered will include rhythm playing, soloing, arranging-on-the fly and jamming etiquette.  Special attention will be given to tuning, timing and taste.  Repertoire will include selections from a variety of American roots music styles including, blues, jazz, country, rock, old-time, bluegrass gospel and more.  Chord charts, lyric sheets and other printed material will be provided. This is an opportunity for intermediate students (those who have completed, or have almost completed, their Mel Book), to learn and practice how to play in a small ensemble. Depending on the level of participation, workshops will be sorted by age, ability and instrument.  Workshops will be one hour in length, meet three times (June 11, 18 & 25), and cost $20/ session. If there is interest, a second series of workshops will be scheduled.
